Farisha was crowned The Final 1 in a star studded finale

In a star studded finale last night (21 Aug), Shaun and Farisha took to stage performing a total of seven songs each, including ‘Payphone’ with judge Taufik Batisah and ‘Without You’ with South African Idols champion Jody Williams.

Taufik Batisah also shared the stage with Rui En, performing their hit ‘Sky’s The Limit’ to the screams of the crowd. Jody Williams also performed a brilliant cover of Beyonce’s ‘Listen’.

Headling act of the night, apart from The Final 2, was Natasha Bedingfield who performed her hits ‘These Words’ as well as the Grammy nominated ‘Unwritten’.

The judges sang praises of both finalists and their very different styles, Shaun the “rocker” and the “soulful” Farisha. However, only one could emerge champion. Based on the votes from the audience, Farisha was crowned The Final 1. The bubbly 18 year-old was filled with joy as she shared with us her feelings and thoughts in an exclusive interview after the show.

Both Shaun and Farisha were surprisingly undaunted by the huge crowd. While they were taken aback slightly at first, they soon got into the groove and gave the performances of their lives. There was also no fear of the pyro setting them on fire; even more so for Shaun as he had flames bursting through his performance of Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida’. As Farisha put it, “I had fog”, during her performance of ‘Run’, sharing that Shaun had it worse (or more exciting we feel) with the fire.

For Farisha, her favourite performances throughout her entire journey on The Final 1 were those from the Finale as she was able to soak in the atmosphere of the huge crowd and channel the energy into her performance. Seeing as the performances won her the crown, we are inclined to agree with her, especially her standing ovation worthy rendition of ‘Run’.

Shaun’s favourite performances on his journey were ‘Sexy And I Know It’, which he performed at the reunion show (7 Aug) as well as ‘Viva La Vida’ as they both resonated well with him (we think it was just the pyro for the latter that made it even more memorable).
